Communique – 2008

We, the Fellows of the Fourth ‘Building a Better Asia (BABA): Future Leaders’ Dialogue’ held in Peking University, Beijing, China from October 26 to November 2, 2008, representing thirteen Asian countries (Bangladesh,China,India,Indonesia,Japan,Kazakhstan,India,Indonesia,Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam), affirm and support the BABA vision and mission articulated in the communiqués of the three previous retreats.

We recognize that the last three communiqués successfully incorporated all the relevant concerns that define the vision of BABA. These enthuse us to respect the diversity of the peoples and cultures of Asia and inspire us to work in solidarity with each other in achieving our shared vision of a better Asia.

In accordance with the ideals and goals of BABA and in the spirit of volunteerism, we hereby commit ourselves to concrete actions to establish the BABA Volunteer Community (BABA VC) dedicated to the betterment of the welfare of the people of Asia. We resolve to strengthen the BABA network with a focus on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and cultural and educational exchanges, and to be inclusive of other institutions, organizations, governments and communities that share our vision, and urge them to join us in collective action in building a better Asia,and beyond.
